Devotees Flock to Ujjain for Spectacular Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal

Thousands gathered in Ujjain for the grand Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal, witnessing a divine spectacle filled with devotion and tradition.

Ujjain, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : In Ujjain, the sacred city of Baba Mahakal, a large number of devotees gathered at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple on Saturday for the Bhasma Aarti, celebrated on the sixth day of the Kartik Krishna Paksha. This event drew many eager worshippers who wanted to witness the extraordinary ritual.

Early in the morning, following the command of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sounds of drums and trumpets. After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were allowed to have darshan of Baba Mahakal.

The temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras. As the temple gates opened, the deity was bathed in holy water, followed by an offering of Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices.

During the worship, the first bell was rung, and water was offered with the chant of “Hari Om.” After the camphor aarti, Baba Mahakal was adorned with a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was performed with the accompaniment of cymbals, drums, and conch sounds.

Baba Mahakal received a special sandalwood adornment, along with offerings of moon and bel leaves. Witnessing this divine form left many devotees overwhelmed with emotion. A significant number of worshippers had queued from the previous night to receive blessings from their beloved deity.

Traditionally, the Bhasma Aarti is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after the ashes are offered, Baba Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. Many pilgrims travel to the holy city of Ujjain to be part of this magnificent ceremony, feeling blessed to have witnessed the divine spectacle.
