Devotees Flock to Pray at Maa Alop Shankari Temple During Navratri

A massive crowd gathers at Maa Alop Shankari Temple in Prayagraj for Navratri, seeking blessings and performing rituals.

Prayagraj, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : The sacred occasion of Maha Navami brought throngs of devotees to the renowned Maa Alop Shankari Temple in Prayagraj’s Alopibagh area. As the temple doors opened at 4 AM, long lines of worshippers began to form, eager to participate in the rituals.

The festivities commenced with the Mangal Aarti dedicated to the goddess, and the atmosphere was alive with chants of “Jai Mata Di” and “Har Har Mahadev.” Devotees sought blessings for their families’ prosperity and the welfare of the community.

Maha Navami holds profound religious significance in Hinduism. On this ninth day of Sharadiya Navratri, worshippers honor Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga. It is believed that sincere devotion on this day alleviates hardships and brings joy, peace, and prosperity into the lives of the faithful. Many flocked to the temple, bowing in reverence and hope.

From early morning, a steady stream of devotees has been visible at the temple. Pilgrims traveled from distant areas to fulfill their wishes and receive the goddess’s blessings. They offered red cloth, coconuts, floral garlands, and sacred powders in a traditional manner. Some devotees made their way to the temple barefoot, singing hymns and shouting praises.

In addition to the regular rituals, special ceremonies for Kanya Poojan were held, where young girls were honored and fed, symbolizing the blessings of Maa Durga. Notably, instead of a traditional idol, worshippers pay homage to a sacred cot, a unique feature that distinguishes this Shakti Peeth from other temples.

Amid the large crowd, the enthusiasm of elderly and differently-abled devotees was also evident. Many received assistance from family members to reach the temple. Given the influx of visitors, strict security measures were implemented in and around the temple to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all.

Mansukh Giri Maharaj shared insights about the temple’s significance, stating, “This is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths dedicated to Devi Alop Shankari. It is believed that the ornaments from the fingers of Mata Sati fell here. Among the 51 Shakti Peeths, it is also referred to as Mahadevi Shiwari. Today, on Maha Navami, we honor Siddhidatri. The night rituals during Navratri aim to attain spiritual powers and strength from Mahadev.”
