New Delhi, August 15: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, T.S. Sandhu, hoisted the national flag at the Raj Niwas. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the “Seven Streams of Power” announced at the Red Fort and called upon the residents of Delhi to lead the nation towards the goal of a ‘Developed India by 2047′.
In paying tribute to freedom fighters, the Lieutenant Governor recalled their courage and sacrifice. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s speech, which outlined the seven key streams of power: manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, infrastructure development, defense strength, green and blue economy, and India’s soft power. Sandhu emphasized that these streams are crucial for advancing the country’s development journey in the coming years. He urged the capital’s residents to take the lead in achieving the ‘Developed India’ goal by 2047 based on these seven streams of development.
The Lieutenant Governor stated that the aim for the capital is to become a ‘Developed Delhi’—a model of excellent governance, safety, and civic pride. He expressed that serving Delhi is not merely an administrative task for him but a sacred responsibility. Having known and worked in the city for the past 50 years, he considers it his ‘karma bhoomi’. Each district, street, and neighborhood in Delhi tells its own story. The collective responsibility of the administration is to transform this potential into convenience, respect, and welfare for every citizen.
Sandhu further noted that public governance in Delhi should be based on the Prime Minister’s commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas” (Together with all, Development for all, Trust of all, and Efforts of all). He emphasized the need for better coordination among the central government, Delhi government, municipal bodies, neighboring states, and citizens to convert challenges into long-term opportunities. Key priorities for the capital include cleaning the Yamuna, tackling air pollution, providing housing for all, affordable healthcare, ensuring safety (especially for women and children), traffic management, and revitalizing Delhi’s heritage.
Addressing the youth, Sandhu remarked that they are the key drivers of Delhi’s future. Their energy, innovative ideas, and civic spirit are the true strengths of modern Delhi. He called on citizens to keep their surroundings clean, secure public spaces, and fulfill their fundamental duties.
He stated that while the government can create beautiful public spaces, maintaining them is solely the responsibility of the citizens. He urged the youth, influencers, Resident Welfare Associations, businesses, and the general public to step forward with a positive mindset in this direction. He concluded by stating that a city that truly cares for its vulnerable populations is a hallmark of a civilized and progressive society.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon everyone to pledge to make Delhi one of the best capitals in the world.
