PM Modi Unveils Roadmap for a Developed India on Independence Day

New Delhi, August 15: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. He presented a comprehensive blueprint for India’s future development. Referring to the ‘Sapta Dhara’ or ‘Seven Streams of Power,’ he identified seven key sectors that will play a crucial role in making India self-reliant, developed, and a global economic powerhouse in the coming years. He emphasized that progress in these areas will elevate the country’s economy and create millions of new job opportunities.

The Prime Minister urged the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to seize these opportunities and take Indian products to global markets. He highlighted the immense potential of Indian textiles, machinery, and pharmaceuticals to gain recognition worldwide. However, he stressed that Indian products must meet international quality standards and compete effectively on a global scale.

Modi identified manufacturing as the first and most vital stream of India’s economic progress. He stated that India should not limit itself to producing components but should also aim for global leadership in the manufacturing of complete products. By focusing on cost, quality, and mass production, Indian industries can strengthen their position in the world market, leading to significant job opportunities in factories, supply chains, engineering, design, quality control, and skilled labor sectors.

The second stream, according to the Prime Minister, is agriculture and food production. He emphasized the need to bring India’s traditional food products, millets, spices, fruits, and vegetables to the global market. This will not only enhance opportunities in farming but also open new avenues for employment and investment in food processing, packaging, cold storage, logistics, exports, and agri-tech.

The third stream is technology and innovation. Modi stated that India should become a global hub for data centers, robotics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. He particularly aimed to promote the ‘Made in India 6G’ technology worldwide.

The fourth stream, termed ‘Gati Shakti,’ relates to the country’s infrastructure and connectivity. He emphasized the need for expanding expressways, high-speed rail networks, modern ports, and multimodal transport systems. Improved connectivity will reduce business costs and generate large-scale employment in construction, transportation, logistics, and engineering sectors.

The fifth stream, ‘Defense Power,’ highlighted the need for India to transition from being an importer of defense equipment to a global supplier. He specifically mentioned the potential in drone and anti-drone technology, stating that this sector holds vast opportunities for India. Boosting defense production will invigorate high-tech manufacturing, research, electronics, and aerospace industries.

The sixth stream involves the green and blue economies. Modi underscored the importance of green hydrogen, renewable energy, energy storage, and clean fuels. He also included fisheries, coastal tourism, and marine technology as part of the blue economy. The government believes that clean energy and the marine economy can become significant sources of employment and investment in the coming years.

Finally, the seventh stream is India’s soft power, which encompasses yoga, handicrafts, Indian cinema, animation, gaming, digital content, and cultural heritage. Modi noted the rapidly growing global demand for creative and digital products, suggesting that India can leverage this opportunity to strengthen its cultural and economic identity on a global scale, creating new opportunities for content creators, designers, developers, artists, and those in the tourism sector.

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the spirit of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ has strengthened in the country. He believes that in the next five to seven years, India can achieve milestones that previously took decades to realize. According to him, the power of these seven pillars of ‘Sapta Dhara’ will establish new standards for development, technology, employment, and global competitiveness.

He also highlighted the growth in the electric vehicle sector, stating, “In 2009-10, only 150,000 electric vehicles were sold, but by 2025-26, 2.5 million electric vehicles are projected to be sold.”

Modi remarked on the aviation sector’s rapid growth, creating new job opportunities through new airports and routes. He noted the success in manufacturing ‘Made in India’ airplanes and the positive impact of the ownership scheme for drones in villages, benefiting around 3.25 crore families and unlocking assets worth ₹140 lakh crore, facilitating loans and enabling business ventures.
