Delhis Budget Aims to Accelerate Development, Says Chief Minister Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, March 23: The budget session of the Delhi Assembly has commenced with the traditional ‘Kheer Ceremony.’ Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed this ritual on Monday, marking the beginning of the budget session.

The ‘Kheer Ceremony’ was introduced after the BJP government took charge in Delhi. During this ceremony, a traditional Indian sweet is prepared, offered to the deities, and then shared among those involved in budget preparation and the general public.

In a press conference, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the 2026-27 budget is the second budget of their government. She emphasized that this budget aims to enhance the pace of development in Delhi and improve the living standards of its residents. It is designed to accelerate Delhi’s growth and project a positive image of the national capital.

She added that the budget will include facilities for students, improved healthcare infrastructure, better air quality, and a vision for a greener Delhi. “Now is the time to fulfill our dreams. Last year, we worked towards changing the direction of Delhi. This budget will work to improve the condition of our city,” she said.

CM Rekha Gupta expressed her gratitude to the people of Delhi, stating, “Our commitment is to serve the people of Delhi and to continuously work towards making the national capital even better.”

Meanwhile, Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa remarked that for nearly 30 years, the battle against air pollution has been ongoing, with previous governments failing to deliver. He noted that this year’s budget will be a ‘Green Budget,’ aimed at protecting Delhi’s environment and ensuring cleaner air. “I thank Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for this vision,” he added.

Sirsa assured everyone that significant progress has been made over the past year towards initiatives that have led to visibly cleaner air in Delhi. He mentioned that the budget will outline the framework for upcoming projects and set the direction for the next year’s work.
