
New Delhi, March 24: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the assembly on Tuesday, announcing significant developments for the capital. This year, the government introduced a budget of ₹1,03,700 crores, which is considerably larger than last year’s allocation.
In her address, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that this budget was crafted with the needs of the people in mind, branding it a ‘Green Budget.’ She stated that every plan and policy within this budget incorporates environmental protection and considerations for future generations. Notably, 21% of the total budget has been earmarked for environmental initiatives.
Regarding revenue sources, the Chief Minister revealed that ₹900 crores would come from non-tax revenue, while ₹591 crores would be received from the Central Road Fund. Additionally, the government anticipates approximately ₹2,500 crores from the central government under various schemes. She also mentioned that 70.3% of the total budget is allocated for revenue expenditure.
A significant provision has been made for the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), with ₹11,666 crores allocated for the first time.
Infrastructure and urban development have also been prioritized in this budget. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been allocated ₹5,921 crores. Furthermore, ₹7,887 crores have been set aside for urban development, ₹300 crores for Yamunanagar, ₹800 crores for slum development, ₹787 crores for rural development, and ₹914 crores for the development department.
The Chief Minister highlighted that special attention will be given to road development under the PWD. The department has been tasked with completing 7,000 kilometers of roads with brick and concrete construction, with an expenditure of ₹1,392 crores. Additionally, ₹350 crores have been separately allocated for the development of legislative assembly areas.
A provision of ₹186 crores has also been made for the NDMC and Delhi Cantonment area.
