
New Delhi, April 1: The Delhi Police have made a significant drug bust, arresting a 19-year-old man found in possession of 3.423 kilograms of marijuana. Officials announced the arrest on Wednesday.
The apprehension took place near the Bharthal village road. This operation aimed to curb drug supply in the Dwarka area.
According to a police press release, the operation was conducted by a special team from the Dwarka Sector-23 police station, under the supervision of ACP Dwarka Kishore Kumar Rewala. The team included Head Constable Rajesh, Constable Ram Kishan, Head Constable Sher Singh, Head Constable Vicky, and IO/SI Satpal Dagar.
Authorities reported that the patrol team’s vigilance paid off when they spotted a suspicious individual carrying a black backpack, heading towards the Dwarka Expressway from Bharthal village. The suspect attempted to flee upon noticing the police but was apprehended shortly after. The accused has been identified as Vipin Kumar.
Upon searching the backpack, police discovered a black plastic bag containing a substance resembling tobacco, which emitted a strong odor of marijuana. A field testing kit confirmed the substance as marijuana, weighing 3 kilograms and 423 grams. The press release stated that all legal formalities under the NDPS Act were completed, and the seized drugs were sealed with the police’s official stamp for further legal action.
During questioning, Vipin Kumar, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, revealed that he was currently living with a relative in Kapashera, Delhi. He disclosed that he had purchased the marijuana from a person named Priyam in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, at a rate of approximately 8,000 rupees per kilogram, intending to sell it at a higher price to local contacts in Delhi.
The case has been registered at the Dwarka Sector-23 police station, and further investigations are ongoing. Police officials emphasized that timely action prevented a significant quantity of drugs from reaching local areas, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and proactive policing.
Dwarka District Police Commissioner Kushal Pal Singh commended the officers for their vigilance and swift action, stating that intelligence-based operations are crucial for ensuring public safety and dismantling drug supply networks.
