Delhi Launches 300 New Electric Buses to Enhance Public Transport

New Delhi, March 20: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated several key projects from the Indraprastha Bus Depot on Friday. She flagged off 300 new electric buses and launched a new interstate bus service from Nanak Sar (Delhi) to Ghaziabad. Additionally, the foundation stone for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) multi-story office building was laid. The Chief Minister also introduced the EV Incentive Portal, distributing over ₹24 crore in subsidies to 12,877 beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). These initiatives aim to strengthen a green, clean, and modern transportation system in Delhi.

Present at the event were Delhi’s Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah from Jungpura, and other dignitaries and senior officials. The Chief Minister emphasized that these initiatives are significant steps towards a clean, affordable, safe, and future-ready public transport system. Green transport will not only reduce pollution but also enhance the convenience of daily life for Delhi residents.

The Chief Minister praised the remarkable improvements made by DTC over the past year. She noted that DTC was previously operating at a significant loss, but due to the government’s continuous efforts, it is gradually moving towards financial stability. She highlighted the decline in DTC’s condition during previous administrations, where operational irregularities and improper resource utilization were prevalent. Her government has addressed these systemic issues, ensuring transparency and accountability.

She shared that the government has undertaken several important steps, including modernizing bus depots, redeveloping ISBT, constructing the DTC office, establishing automated testing stations, and strengthening the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) system. The current government is also responsibly addressing the financial liabilities left by previous administrations.

Regarding electric vehicle subsidies, the Chief Minister mentioned that despite previously announced plans, beneficiaries did not receive timely subsidies. The current government has rectified this situation, transferring nearly ₹24 crore directly into the accounts of over 12,800 beneficiaries through a transparent system. The government’s goal is to ensure that the public receives their entitlements promptly and without hindrance.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the aim is to develop a public transport system that is safe, convenient, and environmentally friendly. She praised the new bus services launched to strengthen interstate connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region, which will greatly benefit daily commuters and enhance regional connectivity.

Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh remarked that the launch of 300 new zero-emission electric buses from the Indraprastha Bus Depot, the initiation of the interstate e-bus service between Nanak Sar and Ghaziabad, and the foundation laying of the new DTC office building are significant steps towards modernizing and making public transport in Delhi environmentally friendly.

He added that under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the government is fulfilling every promise. With the addition of these 300 buses, Delhi’s total bus fleet has surpassed 6,100, rapidly progressing towards the target of 5,000 electric buses by March. These buses are equipped with CCTV, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and facilities for differently-abled individuals.

The new e-bus service from Nanak Sar to Ghaziabad, covering approximately 21 kilometers, will provide thousands of commuters in Delhi-NCR with affordable and convenient travel options. Furthermore, the new DTC office, being constructed over 1,800 square meters, will be modern and energy-efficient.

The government is continuously working to strengthen DTC, making it self-reliant and future-ready by reissuing long-pending EV subsidies through DBT, providing over ₹24 crore directly to 12,877 beneficiaries’ accounts.
