New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a cleanliness drive in the Azadpur area as part of the ‘Seva Mera Yogdaan’ initiative on Friday. During the event, she called on residents to play their part in keeping the national capital clean.
In her address, Gupta highlighted her choice of location, emphasizing the pressing cleanliness issues in the area. She aimed to bring attention to the responsibilities of municipal bodies. “When discussions about cleanliness programs in various parts of Delhi arose, I specifically chose this area to draw the commissioner’s focus. I often tell them that this area resembles a ‘no man’s land,’ as it is the back gate of the mandi, which is consistently littered with garbage,” she stated.
Gupta noted the conflicting claims of jurisdiction between the Keshavpuram and Civil Lines zones. “Keshavpuram claims this area is outside its jurisdiction, while Civil Lines asserts that its boundary does not start here,” she explained.
To address the severe waste problem, Gupta decided to directly call the commissioner to clarify which zone is responsible for the area. “Accountability is crucial because this situation cannot continue,” she asserted. She stressed that responsibility must be established at all levels to maintain a clean city.
Reflecting on the improvements seen over the past year, Gupta remarked that dust levels have decreased and road conditions have improved. “I can see the changes that have occurred in the last year. We have cleaned the area, reduced dust, and the roads that used to sink are now stable. I commend the PWD for ensuring the roads have remained intact this time,” she said.
Gupta described the area as Adarsh Nagar, noting that the roads have not sunk this time. She shared images on the social media platform X, indicating that the cleanliness drive was part of the efforts to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi‘s birthday.
She emphasized that the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership 12 years ago, has transformed into a nationwide movement. It has instilled cleanliness not merely as a governmental responsibility but as a civic duty and a value of life.
Gupta urged citizens to make cleanliness a habit and strengthen the commitment to ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat, and Swachh Delhi’ through public participation. Present at the event were MLA Rajkumar Bhatia, North Zone Ward Committee Chair Gulab Singh Rathore, and other notable figures.
The ‘Seva Mera Yogdaan’ campaign is part of community service programs held nationwide to mark Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years in public life. The month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ runs from September 17 to October 17, aiming to encourage public participation toward achieving the vision of ‘Developed India @2047.’ The ‘Seva Pakhwada,’ a 15-day program from September 17 to October 2, features various service-related activities, beginning around the Prime Minister’s birthday and concluding on Gandhi Jayanti.
