Caracas, July 2: The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,295, according to Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly. Additionally, the number of injured has reached 11,267.

In a recent update on the situation, Rodriguez reported that authorities are currently counting 12,841 affected individuals. Over 4,000 international and domestic rescue workers and volunteers have successfully saved 6,461 people from the disaster.

Rodriguez, who also heads the command center for establishing temporary camps, urged health workers, security personnel, and firefighters to register on the Patria platform to assist those affected by the earthquakes.

He noted that 25 temporary camps are operational, including 13 in La Guaira, eight in Caracas, two in Miranda, one in Carabobo, and one in Yaracuy. Authorities are working swiftly to prepare these camps and relocate affected individuals.

Since June 24, Venezuela has recorded 782 aftershocks, although their intensity has diminished.

In a show of solidarity, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez declared a seven-day national mourning period to honor the victims of the earthquakes. She announced this decision on social media, stating, “In memory of the victims, I have decided to declare a national mourning period starting Wednesday at 6:00 PM for seven days. In this time of great sorrow, we embrace those affected by this tragedy and reaffirm our commitment to stand by and protect them.”

Rodriguez emphasized that the human toll from these devastating earthquakes has shattered the spirit of Venezuela.
