Patna, March 9: RJD legislator Bhai Virendra has come to the defense of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has recently faced criticism over a presidential protocol issue. On Monday, he stated that Banerjee would never insult the President, calling the situation an exaggeration, especially with elections approaching in Bengal.
In a conversation in Patna, Bhai Virendra expressed concerns about the state of democracy in the country. He emphasized that individuals in constitutional positions should prioritize the nation over party politics. He accused the BJP of having ulterior motives, suggesting that they are aware they cannot win elections in Bengal.
Regarding the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the RJD legislator remarked that the Speaker is meant to be a guardian of the house. If the Speaker fails to fulfill this role and engages solely in party politics, it is understandable that opposition members would consider a no-confidence motion. He believes it is crucial for the country and the world to understand the reasons behind this motion. While the outcome may vary, he stressed that democracy is at risk, which is why he supports the no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
Bhai Virendra also criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that the so-called leaders of the JD(U) who have allied with the BJP have tarnished Kumar’s reputation. He suggested that pressure was applied to convince these leaders to step down. He expressed doubt that the JD(U) would survive, predicting that there will come a time when the party will no longer exist. He lamented that current politics is dominated by leaders who are disconnected from the public, while those who genuinely work for the people are overlooked by both the public and other leaders.
