Etawah, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : In Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, police apprehended a notorious criminal following an encounter that resulted in injuries. On the night of September 9 and 10, police were conducting checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles near the Nivadi Kala intersection. During this operation, a motorcycle rider identified as Ankit, also known as Fauji, was spotted approaching from Aheripur. When officers signaled him to stop, he opened fire and attempted to flee towards Achalda.
In response, police pursued him, alerting another team for assistance. As both teams closed in, Ankit fired at the officers again. Police returned fire in self-defense, injuring him in the left leg. He was subsequently captured. A search revealed an illegal .315 bore firearm, along with two live cartridges and two spent shells in his possession. The motorcycle he was riding is reported stolen, and authorities are investigating its origins.
Ankit, 26, is a known criminal with a history sheet number 293A registered at the Kotwali police station. He faces 13 criminal cases, including robbery, attempted murder, and illegal possession of weapons across various police stations in Etawah. The incident has led to a case being filed at the Bakhewar police station, invoking several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
This operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Shreechandra and leadership from Circle Officer Ramdawan Maurya. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
