Controversial Obstructing the Field Call Sparks Outrage in IPL Match

Lucknow, April 27: The 38th match of IPL 2026 featured a heated moment as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi was declared out for ‘obstructing the field.’ This decision has left KKR’s camp visibly upset.

The incident occurred during the last ball of the fifth over of KKR’s innings. Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a shot towards mid-on and sprinted for a run. However, Cameron Green at the other end sent him back. In an attempt to reach the crease, Angkrish dove, but as he did so, a fielder threw the ball, hitting him directly on the leg.

As soon as the ball struck Angkrish, LSG captain Rishabh Pant and his teammates appealed to the umpire. Consequently, Angkrish was ruled out for ‘obstructing the field.’ Both Angkrish and the KKR team expressed their dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision. As he walked back to the pavilion, Angkrish slammed his bat onto the ground and tossed his helmet near the boundary line.

KKR’s head coach Abhishek Nayar was seen engaged in a lengthy discussion with the umpire, clearly showing his frustration. Notably, Angkrish is not the first player to face such a ruling in IPL history; Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yusuf Pathan have also been given out for ‘obstructing the field.’

Angkrish scored 9 runs off 8 balls before returning to the pavilion. KKR managed to post a total of 155 runs, losing 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Rinku Singh was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 83 runs off 51 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes. Cameron Green contributed 34 runs off 21 balls.
