Congress President Demands Accountability from Amit Shah Over Police Brutality Against Students

New Delhi, August 10: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to explain the brutality inflicted on students by Delhi police during the parliamentary siege on July 20. Kharge emphasized that Shah must clarify under whose orders the police used force against the students.

During a press conference on Monday, Kharge stated that the Home Minister should address the violence against students and youth, which included baton charges and the use of tear gas. He also noted the deployment of pellet guns and electric shock batons. Despite the ongoing demands from the opposition, Amit Shah has yet to respond in the House.

Kharge outlined two primary demands: first, that the Home Minister explain why such force was used against students, and second, that Prime Minister Modi provide information regarding the alleged embezzlement of donations intended for the Ram Temple. He pointed out that there has been no progress on these issues, and both the Prime Minister and Home Minister have remained silent over the past 15 days while the opposition continues to fight for answers.

He further stated that the opposition seeks discussions on the NEET paper leak, the Ram Temple donation theft, and the police brutality against students during the monsoon session. However, the government has not addressed these topics in recent weeks, suggesting a reluctance to engage in dialogue. The opposition has been pressing for accountability, yet the Home Minister has not made a statement in the House.

Referring to the Ram Temple donation theft, Kharge insisted that those involved must face severe punishment. He noted that the Prime Minister established the Ram Temple Trust and appointed its members, thus he should take responsibility for the situation. The public expects transparency and action against those implicated in the donation theft, yet PM Modi has not addressed this issue. This marks a rare instance of silence from both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on such critical matters. Kharge highlighted that Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised these issues and continues to advocate for accountability.
