New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leaders voiced strong criticism on Wednesday regarding the treatment of Rahul Gandhi by the Delhi Police during a protest in the Lok Sabha. The demonstration was organized by the India Block, which called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were briefly detained by the police before being released shortly after.
Congress MP Rajeev Shukla expressed his discontent over the government’s actions, stating that such behavior towards the leader of the opposition is unacceptable. He remarked that the government is stifling protests, arresting individuals at every turn.
Shukla emphasized that the focus should be on removing the Chief Election Commissioner, who faces numerous allegations, rather than targeting opposition MPs. He condemned the police’s conduct, suggesting a collusion between the government and law enforcement. The manner in which Priyanka Gandhi was detained was particularly criticized, and he affirmed that opposition protests would continue.
Congress leader Ragini Nayak announced that protests would persist on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi had previously stated that adequate space for demonstrations should be provided, highlighting Jantar Mantar as a traditional site for such activities. He noted that people from across the country come to protest there, and vowed that their efforts would not be silenced.
Charan Singh Sapra, another Congress leader, labeled Gyanesh Kumar a villain for allegedly manipulating the voter list and referred to the Election Commission as a “Cheat Commission.” He claimed that the BJP is attempting to create a customized voter list, prompting public outrage and opposition demonstrations. Sapra pledged that they would expose these actions.
