Mumbai, August 14: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has raised serious concerns regarding the law and order situation in Maharashtra following an attack on prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal. He emphasized that despite the presence of security for such a high-profile politician, the attack raises questions about the state’s security measures and administrative efficacy.
Dalwai defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the BJP’s criticism regarding alleged comments made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He also targeted the BJP and RSS over the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, criticizing their stance on the national flag. Furthermore, he expressed strong objections to the alleged purification of the venue after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally, labeling it an example of caste-based thinking.
Regarding the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Dalwai stated that this incident highlights the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He questioned the state government’s responsibility, given that an attack occurred despite the presence of security for such a significant leader. He urged the state government to exercise extra vigilance in protecting important leaders, noting that any injury to a person in such incidents is a serious matter. With increasing incidents targeting prominent leaders, Dalwai insisted that the police and administration must take this issue seriously and review security protocols.
Dalwai also supported Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks about launching the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from the RSS headquarters. He referenced the RSS’s historical objections to the national flag, stating that if the campaign is now being promoted, the RSS should first display the flag at their headquarters. Those who previously objected to the flag should apologize for their past stance. The national flag represents the entire country, and organizations that once raised objections must clarify their positions before promoting its significance.
In response to the BJP’s questions regarding Rahul Gandhi’s comments about Modi and Meloni, Dalwai dismissed the criticism. When asked if such language was appropriate for an opposition leader and whether it could affect India’s foreign relations, he defended Gandhi, asserting that he had not said anything wrong. Dalwai clarified that the comment regarding Meloni was not made by Rahul Gandhi.
Dalwai also countered BJP leaders’ criticisms of Rahul Gandhi, who they labeled as an ineffective stand-up comedian. He pointed out that while BJP members frequently question Gandhi’s role as an opposition leader, he continues to engage with the public and meet those who have faced injustice. Gandhi is actively working to unite people and fulfilling his responsibilities energetically. His rising popularity is a concern for the BJP, which criticizes him for persistently questioning the government, especially Prime Minister Modi.
Dalwai reacted strongly to the alleged purification of the venue after Kharge’s rally in Haldwani, calling it entirely wrong. He noted that Kharge comes from the Dalit community, and if any purification was conducted based on caste, it is highly objectionable. Such incidents indicate that caste-based thinking still exists in society. He referenced the Constitution and the values of equality, stating that such behavior is unacceptable. Kharge is a highly respected leader for Congress, and any discrimination against him based on caste is wrong. Dalwai demanded action against those involved in the alleged incident, insisting that such mindsets must be opposed.
