New Delhi, September 3: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury sharply criticized the government’s claim of a 7.8 percent GDP growth for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27. He described the statistics as misleading, asserting that the common man is facing empty pockets while inflation continues to soar.
In an interview, Chowdhury stated, “PM Modi tells people not to buy gold, avoid air travel, and refrain from going abroad, yet he claims that the wealth of our country is increasing. In reality, this wealth is only benefiting a select few. This is merely a quarterly report; the annual report is yet to come. We should not celebrate prematurely.”
He emphasized the need for genuine economic progress but criticized the government’s approach. “During Congress’s tenure, GDP growth reached 9-10 percent, but we did not boast about it. Prices in the market have not decreased; they are skyrocketing. The government must take action. While the government presents figures, our pockets remain empty.”
Regarding the cancellation of the CJP protest scheduled for September 5, Chowdhury remarked, “The government should have addressed the students’ demands earlier. Everyone knows that students gathered at Jantar Mantar to voice their concerns. If the government had acted appropriately, we wouldn’t be in this situation. What the government should have done has now been forced by the Supreme Court’s intervention.”
Chowdhury also made significant claims regarding Rahul Gandhi‘s statement about ‘vote theft‘ in Delhi. He alleged that 130 million names have been removed from voter lists across the country. “Is this a trivial matter? It means that the elections contested by the BJP should be declared invalid. This should be deemed illegal. If the Election Commission’s list is accurate, the previous elections should be annulled.”
He added, “No matter how the government tries to justify its actions, the truth is evident. Approximately 130 million names have been removed from the draft. This is not a minor issue. In Jharkhand, people openly claim that BJP leaders are circulating ‘Form 7’. There is no doubt that vote theft is occurring in the country. People across India are becoming aware of this.”
