Congress Demands Review of Alleged Illegal Decisions by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

Congress calls for Gyanesh Kumars resignation, citing concerns over illegal decisions and voter rights in recent elections.

Lucknow, Delhi, Shimla, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : Protests by the Congress party against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar are intensifying. Party leaders are raising serious questions about the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists, demanding Kumar’s resignation. They allege that the SIR undermines voters’ rights.

In Lucknow, Congress Legislative Party leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ stated that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had previously highlighted issues of vote theft following elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar. She accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of dismissing these allegations at the time, despite Gandhi presenting evidence of potential voter manipulation through the SIR.

Mishra pointed out that recent revelations regarding objections and disagreements from two members of the Election Commission have reignited discussions about Congress’s earlier claims. She emphasized that these two commissioners expressed concerns that were overlooked and not given due consideration.

Following these developments, Mishra asserted that Gyanesh Kumar should resign on moral grounds. She also called for an impartial investigation into the matter, urging all involved to cooperate in uncovering the truth. Congress remains committed to protecting the voting rights enshrined in democracy and the Constitution.

In Delhi, Alka Lamba, president of the Women’s Congress, echoed calls for Kumar’s resignation. She noted that the party has been raising the issue of vote theft for nearly a year. Lamba highlighted a rally held on December 14 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, which saw significant public participation under the banner “Vote Thief, Leave the Throne.”

Lamba urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand Kumar’s resignation within 24 hours, insisting on legal action against him and a review of his alleged illegal decisions during his tenure.

Meanwhile, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Congress president Vinay Kumar also called for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner. He questioned Kumar’s continued position, given the objections raised by two of the three Election Commission members on multiple occasions.

Kumar demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, advocating for the filing of an FIR against Gyanesh Kumar and legal action. Congress leaders insist that a transparent inquiry into the SIR and related Election Commission issues is crucial for clarity.
