Himachal Pradesh Aims for Self-Reliance by 2027 and Prosperity by 2032, Says CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhu outlines plans for Himachals self-reliance by 2027 and prosperity by 2032, focusing on economic growth and anti-corruption.

Solan, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh has announced an ambitious plan to make the state self-reliant by 2027 and the most prosperous in the country by 2032. The state government is actively seeking new revenue sources, combating corruption, and strengthening the economy.

Sukhu emphasized that the commitment to self-reliance was made when the Congress government came into power. He noted that the government has already begun to see results from its efforts. Highlighting the Kishau project, he stated that the government’s success in this area has boosted its confidence. He added that if the central government had not halted the RDG funding, Himachal Pradesh could have achieved self-reliance much sooner.

Currently, the government is awaiting an estimated ₹500 crore from arrears and the outcomes of the water and Shanan projects. These water-related initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in the state’s journey toward self-sufficiency. The government anticipates that closing loopholes for corruption and increasing various income sources could save the state between ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 crore in the coming years.

Using the example of the Wild Flower Hall, Sukhu pointed out that the state had not received any funds from that source in 23 years. However, the government has recently deposited ₹401 crore into the state treasury. He also mentioned that the JSW Jindal company is expected to contribute around ₹150 crore annually, a payment that has not been collected in several years. With adequate financial resources, new opportunities for the youth will emerge, and the benefits will soon be evident for the people of the state.

The government is also working on wellness centers, water parks, and zoos. Sukhu acknowledged that repairing decades-old systems takes time, but the results of the government’s efforts are beginning to show. After achieving self-reliance by 2027, the next goal is to make Himachal Pradesh the richest state by 2032, with a focus on increasing farmers’ income and revenue from various sectors.

Regarding the Kishau project, Sukhu mentioned that it is expected to benefit future generations with approximately ₹1,500 crore. He described this as part of the government’s strategic steps toward self-reliance.

When asked about cabinet expansion and reshuffling, the Chief Minister stated that discussions on this matter should continue. He noted that there are currently vacant positions in the cabinet, including one for a Deputy Speaker. If decisions are made to fill these roles, the government aims to do so before December 11.
