New Delhi, March 2: The Congress party has sharply criticized the central government’s foreign policy, claiming it has been fully exposed amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Following a call for intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, in light of the joint U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran and the safety of Indian expatriates, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to social media to express his concerns. He stated that the nation is paying a heavy price for both the essence and methods of Modi’s foreign policy.
Ramesh highlighted several issues that he believes reflect the weaknesses of the central government’s approach. He asserted that no matter how much the Prime Minister and his close aides attempt to project strength, the reality is that India’s foreign policy under the self-proclaimed global leader has been completely laid bare.
He pointed out that U.S. President Donald Trump continues to maintain close ties with Pakistan, repeatedly praising an individual whose inflammatory statements laid the groundwork for the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The U.S. has clearly supported Pakistan in its fight against Afghanistan.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, Ramesh noted that President Trump has claimed over a hundred times that he intervened to halt the operation by threatening tariffs on Indian exports on May 10, 2025. However, Prime Minister Modi has remained silent on these assertions.
The Congress leader criticized the India-U.S. trade agreement as one-sided. He also mentioned Modi’s recent visit to Israel, stating that the government’s response to the war imposed on Iran is a betrayal of India’s values, principles, concerns, and interests.
