New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh targeted the Delhi police and the central government on Wednesday regarding the FIRs filed against Rahul Gandhi and other leaders during opposition protests against the Special Intensive Review (SIR). He stated that Gandhi has been consistently revealing a purported “vote theft conspiracy” in the Lok Sabha.
Ramesh took to social media platform X, claiming that for nearly two years, Gandhi has been exposing this alleged conspiracy involving the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Chief Election Commissioner with factual evidence.
He accused the SIR process of infringing on the constitutional right of “millions of actual voters” to cast their votes. Ramesh described the SIR as a political maneuver instigated to remove dissent.
When Rahul Gandhi chose to engage in a “satyagraha” to highlight the alleged injustices surrounding the SIR, the Delhi police responded by filing FIRs against him and other leaders.
In his post, Ramesh stated that after the opposition leaders’ peaceful protest against the supposed injustices of the SIR, the police took action against them.
He further alleged that the central government and the Election Commission are under pressure regarding this issue, asserting that “the writing on the wall is clear.”
On Tuesday, during a march from Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters, several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained by the Delhi police. The protesters were stopped near the Akashvani Bhawan and subsequently entered the premises to stage a sit-in.
According to police reports, the leaders were asked to vacate the area but chose to remain seated in protest. Eventually, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other opposition figures were taken into custody but were later released.
Reports indicate that some leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka, entered the premises through the reception gate and staged a sit-in under a tree.
The opposition leaders are demanding action against the SIR and calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The FIRs filed against Gandhi, Priyanka, and others have raised questions about the actions of the central government and the Delhi police.
