With International Yoga Day just around the corner, the AYUSH Ministry is sharing the benefits, practice methods, and precautions for various yoga poses daily. Ustrasana is part of this initiative. Yoga experts suggest that practicing yoga for just a few minutes daily can alleviate fatigue, stress, and physical weakness. Small changes can lead to significant results.

Ustrasana is highly effective in enhancing spinal flexibility, stretching the chest, and strengthening the back. This pose alleviates stiffness in the shoulders and back, reducing fatigue and stress. Regular practice can improve digestion, keep the thyroid gland active, and provide relief from respiratory issues like asthma. Additionally, it enhances posture, boosts confidence, and promotes mental peace.

To practice Ustrasana, kneel on the floor and place your toes behind you. Keep your knees hip-width apart and rest your hands on your waist. Gradually lean back, then place your hands on your heels while lifting your chest forward and tilting your neck back to look at the ceiling. Hold this position for a few seconds before returning to a normal stance. Start with 10-20 seconds and gradually increase the duration.

During practice, keep a few precautions in mind. Avoid this pose if you have serious injuries or issues in your back, neck, knees, or shoulders. Individuals with high or low blood pressure should consult a doctor before practicing. Pregnant women and those with serious health conditions should practice under expert guidance. Maintain a steady breath and avoid forcing your body into the pose.
