Kolkata, March 3: Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar has responded to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s planned protest on March 6. He stated that the BJP will form the government in Bengal, implying that Banerjee will frequently need to protest, earning her the nickname “Dharna Didi” (Protest Sister).
During a media interaction in Kolkata, Majumdar remarked that it is good for Banerjee to practice her protest skills, as she may need them when she becomes the opposition leader. He confidently asserted that a BJP government will be established, and she will have to sit for protests repeatedly.
Addressing allegations from the opposition regarding the death of a BLO during the SIR process, Majumdar expressed confusion over the claims. He questioned the existence of a death certificate and noted that the District Magistrate stated that no deaths occurred during the SIR process. He added that the Election Commission has not received any report regarding deaths during this process.
In response to Congress leaders demanding a halt to elections, Majumdar suggested that if they had objections, they should have approached the court.
BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya commented on Banerjee’s protests, stating that if she is protesting, there is little they can do. He emphasized that the public is aware of her situation, including her protests concerning Bangladeshi Rohingyas, migrants from Bangladesh, and deceased voters.
It is noteworthy that TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate the voter list through the Election Commission, claiming that the BJP cannot win the assembly elections. He alleged that the BJP had already aimed to remove over one crore names from the voter list before the SIR process began. In response to arbitrary removals, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a protest in Kolkata on March 6.
