Beijing, March 22: The 34th World Water Day was celebrated on Sunday, marking the commencement of the 39th China Water Week. During a promotional event themed “Water Conservation China Tour: Hefei, Anhui,” it was revealed that non-traditional water use in China is projected to surpass 25 billion cubic meters by 2025.
Non-traditional water sources include recycled water, rainwater, seawater, desalinated seawater, groundwater, and brackish water. These sources can be utilized after treatment or, under certain conditions, can be used directly.
The development and utilization of non-traditional water sources play a crucial role in enhancing water supply, reducing sewage discharge, optimizing water resource allocation systems, and improving water resource efficiency. This is essential for high-quality development.
China has made significant strides in areas such as agricultural water conservation and efficiency improvement, industrial water conservation and emission reduction, and urban water conservation and loss reduction.
These achievements are rooted in the continuous progress of water conservation efforts in the new era. Ensuring water security has become a strategic choice for China’s modernization.
