Gorakhpur, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asserted that Sanatan Dharma is the fundamental religion of India. Speaking at the Shri Gorakhnath Temple during the seventh day of the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana Katha, he emphasized that understanding the essence of Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura-Vrindavan, and Prayagraj is crucial for comprehending both Uttar Pradesh and India. He remarked that Indians have often forgotten their roots, despite the rich culture and traditions that have existed while the world was in darkness.
During his address, CM Yogi acknowledged the unwavering spirit of the devotees, noting that even amidst severe disasters affecting various states, the Katha continued without interruption. He expressed gratitude to Swami Rajendra Devacharya, the head of Maluk Peeth, for guiding the discussions on contemporary and pressing issues throughout the week.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the identity of Sanatan lies in the reverence for cows, noting that in Indian tradition, the first morsel of food is offered to cows, and the last to dogs. He explained that adhering to this practice would prevent stray cattle from roaming the streets and keep homeless dogs from becoming a menace to pedestrians.
Yogi Adityanath called for the conservation and enhancement of indigenous cattle breeds. He mentioned that the government is currently caring for over 1.6 million cows across more than 7,700 shelters. Farmers who keep stray cattle at home receive financial assistance of ₹1,500 per cow monthly, which increases to ₹6,000 for four cows. Additionally, families with malnourished children can receive a cow from the shelter along with monthly support for its maintenance.
The Chief Minister encouraged people without space at home to adopt cows from shelters to aid in their protection. He also stressed the importance of organic farming, linking the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to food contamination. He stated that the government has allocated ₹1,400 crores from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the treatment of the poor, separate from expenses related to the Ayushman card. Furthermore, he advocated for promoting natural farming using cow dung and urine.
While the government has enacted strict laws for cattle protection, he urged individuals to take responsibility for their cows instead of abandoning them on the streets after milking. He emphasized that societal participation is essential alongside government efforts. CM Yogi concluded his address by congratulating the participants and organizers of the Katha, held in honor of the revered Mahants Digvijaynath and Avedyanath, and performed rituals and prayers following his speech.
