Kushinagar, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Kushinagar, September 29 — In response to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall and an influx of water from Nepal, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Kushinagar on Tuesday. His visit came after a section of the AP embankment near the Narayani River breached late Monday night, inundating nearby villages.
During his visit, the Chief Minister met with flood victims, distributing lunch packets and relief supplies while reassuring them that the government stands firmly by their side during this crisis. He instructed the state’s Water Resources Minister and the Chief Secretary of the Irrigation Department to undertake dredging and channelization of the Narayani River once the situation stabilizes, to ensure the safety of the embankment and surrounding villages.
Since the breach was reported, CM Yogi has been closely monitoring the situation and providing guidance to local officials. Following a tribute ceremony at Gorakhnath Temple for the late Mahant Digvijaynath, he conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas, assessing the damage firsthand.
He engaged with villagers who had sought refuge in higher ground, distributing lunch packets and chocolates to children. Additionally, he visited the Bedupur Inter College in the Sevarhi area to share in the struggles of the flood-affected residents while continuing to distribute aid.
The Chief Minister noted that the state had faced significant challenges over the past four days due to relentless rainfall. He explained that the Narayani River typically sees a flow of three to four lakh cubic feet per second, but this surged to five and a half lakh cubic feet on Monday, leading to widespread flooding.
In response to the disaster, rescue and relief operations commenced immediately. Teams from the NDRF and SDRF, along with the PAC flood unit, have been deployed to assist affected areas. Local leaders, including MPs and MLAs, have also been actively involved in relief efforts.
CM Yogi announced that 5,000 relief packets had been prepared, each containing essential items such as rice, flour, lentils, potatoes, and cooking oil, weighing a total of 50 kilograms. He emphasized that the government would provide immediate financial assistance of four lakh rupees for any loss of life and facilitate housing for those whose homes were completely destroyed.
He urged the administration to conduct surveys within ten days to assess crop damage in around 15-16 villages, noting potential losses in rice, sugarcane, and vegetables. The Chief Minister also ordered repairs for any damaged roads caused by the flooding.
To combat waterborne diseases, he instructed the Chief Medical Officer to set up medical camps for the next five to six days. Immediate arrangements for anti-snake venom and rabies vaccines at all Primary Health Centers and Community Health Centers were also mandated.
CM Yogi reiterated the importance of every individual’s life, emphasizing that the government is committed to ensuring safety and support for all affected residents. He directed that once conditions return to normal, measures will be taken to strengthen the AP embankment to prevent future breaches.
