Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Visits Lucknow Ahead of UP Assembly Elections

Lucknow, August 24: Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, a delegation from the Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Lucknow for a two-day visit on Monday. CEC Kumar stated that the delegation’s purpose is to convey a message to the voters of Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival, CEC Kumar remarked, “Lucknow has been my place of penance; I received my education here, and for higher studies, I went to IIT. After a long time, I have returned to my workplace in Lucknow.”

He further added, “We have come to deliver a message to the voters of Uttar Pradesh. We will specifically engage with our Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are the foundation of democracy, to explain some important points. Programs will also be organized in universities and schools across Uttar Pradesh to promote transparency in the electoral process and to educate about the entire election procedure.”

Concluding his remarks, the Chief Election Commissioner extended greetings to all voters once again.

The purpose of this Election Commission delegation’s visit to Uttar Pradesh is to assess the initial preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections and to evaluate the functioning of the electoral machinery at the grassroots level.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar will interact with students at the Awadh Auditorium of Colvin Talukdar College, where he received his early education. Later, he will participate as the chief guest at a regional conference on Electoral Literacy Club (ELC 2.0) and ECI Net, held at the Jupiter Hall of Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. This regional conference on ELC 2.0 and ECI Net will be conducted in three phases across Lucknow, Meerut, and Varanasi.

The first phase will commence in Lucknow, involving 20 districts. Approximately 1,500 students, teachers, principals, and heads of educational institutions from 440 institutions across 120 assembly constituencies in these districts will participate. The aim of the program is to engage youth in the electoral process and enhance their understanding of elections.
