Lucknow, August 24: The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh has intensified following the circulation of a video featuring Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana during his visit to Unnao. The video raised questions as it showed Mahana walking towards his car while the national anthem was being played after a Guard of Honor ceremony.
In response to the growing controversy, Mahana took to the social media platform ‘X’ on Sunday to clarify the situation. He stated that the national anthem began inside the auditorium at a time when he was not present there. He urged viewers not to draw misleading conclusions based solely on the video.
Mahana explained that he was receiving the Guard of Honor as per protocol, and coincidentally, the national anthem started at the same time inside the auditorium, where he was absent. He emphasized that the two events were separate and that claims suggesting he did not stop for the anthem were entirely incorrect.
In his message on social media, the Assembly Speaker stressed the importance of having accurate information regarding any video circulating online to prevent misunderstandings. He noted that some videos were being shared to create a misleading narrative, implying that he did not pause during the national anthem.
Mahana asserted that he, along with his workers and associates, has always shown the utmost respect for the Constitution and the national anthem at every opportunity and location, and they will continue to do so. He also appealed to the media and journalists to verify the facts before discussing any video or incident.
Following the emergence of the video, opposition parties raised questions regarding the issue, leading to various reactions on social media. After Mahana’s clarification, the matter has escalated into a political blame game.
