New Delhi, April 21: General Anil Chauhan, India’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), is currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom. During his trip, he participated in high-level meetings and events aimed at enhancing bilateral defense cooperation.
He met with UK Minister of State for Defense, Luke Pollard, along with senior officials from both nations. The discussions focused on the changing nature of modern warfare, contemporary military challenges, and strengthening military-to-military collaboration. General Chauhan also held significant bilateral talks with Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Affairs, Seema Malhotra.
The meetings emphasized advancing the India-UK partnership, the defense industrial roadmap, and cooperation in technology and security. Both sides agreed to enhance coordination to tackle emerging challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. Special attention was given to increasing collaboration in emerging areas such as cyber, intelligence, and space. They also prioritized information security, information resilience, and special training exchanges. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to building prepared, robust, and capable armed forces for the future.
Prior to these important meetings, CDS Anil Chauhan led a high-level roundtable conference in the UK, attended by several key officials, think tanks, and experts. The theme of the roundtable was “Indian Military Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities.” Discussions revolved around the changing global strategic landscape and the need for modern military adaptations. The growing importance of advanced technologies, expanding operational capabilities, and better coordination in defense, cyber, and intelligence sectors were highlighted.
During his visit, Anil Chauhan was formally honored with a ‘Ceremonial Step Line’ welcome, hosted by UK Chief of Defense Staff Sir Richard Knighton. He also met with India’s High Commissioner in the UK. Defense experts view this visit as a significant step towards deepening defense, intelligence, cyber cooperation, joint exercises, and strategic dialogue between India and the UK, which will bolster global security and stability.
Notably, at the end of last year, the Indian and UK armed forces conducted a joint exercise named ‘Ajeya Warrior.’ During this exercise, both armies practiced decisive actions against terrorists. Indian and UK troops trained to reach terrorist hideouts, conduct attacks, and safely return after destroying these targets. The ‘Ajeya Warrior’ joint military exercise took place at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, involving the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army and British Army units.
