CBI Successfully Extradites Fugitive Mohammed Nawaz Kakkat Ismail from UAE

New Delhi, May 5: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully ensured the extradition of wanted fugitive Mohammed Nawaz Kakkat Ismail from the United Arab Emirates, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Ismail, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, was handed over to Indian authorities on May 4 and brought to Delhi.

The search for Ismail was initiated following a case registered by the Delhi Police, involving serious charges such as extortion, fraud, criminal breach of trust, forgery, impersonation, and involvement in an organized crime syndicate.

Investigators have identified him as the main conspirator of a racket that collected money by impersonating government officials, alongside other accomplices.

At the request of the Delhi Police, the CBI facilitated the issuance of a Red Notice against Ismail through Interpol channels. Subsequently, UAE authorities tracked and arrested him. Following his arrest, India made a formal request for his return, which involved continuous diplomatic and legal efforts.

After persistent follow-ups, UAE officials approved his transfer to India. Ismail was flown to Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he was taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

The CBI, acting as India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol, plays a crucial role in coordinating with law enforcement agencies across the country to repatriate fugitives.

In recent years, over 150 wanted criminals have been successfully brought back to India through this system. This underscores the growing effectiveness of international cooperation in combating organized crime and ensuring that fugitives face justice in their home country.

This recent extradition marks another significant success in India’s ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border criminal gangs and reinforces the nation’s commitment to pursuing criminals, no matter where they hide.
