New Delhi, April 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has presented two officials in court in connection with a bribery case. The accused include Mudavat Devula, a deputy director at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and Bharat Mathur, an official from a private company. They were brought before the Rouse Avenue Court after completing three days of CBI custody.
Mudavat Devula and Bharat Mathur are accused of accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh in exchange for facilitating drone import permissions. During raids at their homes and offices, the CBI recovered ₹37 lakh in cash, along with gold and silver coins, and several digital devices.
Devula held the position of Deputy Director General in the DGCA’s Airworthiness Directorate. His role involved determining whether an aircraft or drone was safe for flight. Bharat Mathur is a senior vice president at a major corporate group and is linked to an aerospace company involved in the drone import business.
According to the CBI, Devula allegedly exploited his official position to solicit money from private companies. Several applications related to drone imports from a private aerospace company had been pending with the DGCA for a long time. Devula reportedly demanded bribes in exchange for approvals and permissions for these applications. Mathur acted as an intermediary for the private company, facilitating the bribery deal between Devula and the firm.
The CBI arrested both individuals red-handed on April 18, recovering ₹2.5 lakh at the scene. The agency has requested the court to extend their custody by five more days.
