CBI Arrests CGST Officials in Bribery Case

New Delhi, May 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a CGST superintendent and an inspector from Giridih in a bribery case on Wednesday.

The CBI registered the case on May 20 based on a complaint. The accused allegedly demanded an improper bribe of ₹90,000 from the complainant to resolve discrepancies in their Input Tax Credit (ITC). They threatened to block the complainant’s GST number if the bribe was not paid.

The CBI caught the superintendent and inspector red-handed while accepting a partial payment of ₹50,000 as a bribe from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the offices and residential premises of the accused. They will be presented in a competent court in Dhanbad. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, on May 19, the CBI arrested an assistant vigilance officer and an MTS from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in a separate bribery case.

The CBI registered a case against the accused assistant vigilance officer on May 18, 2026, based on a complaint from a former deputy director of the DDA. The officer allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh to send a favorable response to the complainant’s original department regarding a vigilance matter. After negotiations, the officer accepted an improper benefit of ₹3 lakh.

On May 18, the CBI caught the assistant vigilance officer in the act. He was accused of demanding and accepting a partial payment of ₹50,000 from the complainant through the DDA’s accused MTS. Both individuals have been arrested.
