Islamabad, February 24: A Canadian researcher, Hamza Ahmed Khan, has been missing for five days in Pakistan, with Lahore police yet to uncover any leads. According to local media, Khan was kidnapped on the morning of February 19 while leaving his residence in Lahore.
As reported by the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, an FIR was filed based on a complaint from Khan’s friend, Yusuf Rasheed. The FIR states that Khan was pursuing a doctorate. He arrived in Pakistan on February 13 to work on his PhD thesis and was staying with Rasheed in the DHA area. Rasheed mentioned that between 1 and 2 AM on February 19, Khan booked a ride-hailing service and left home. He has been missing since then.
Rasheed informed the police that he attempted to locate Khan but was unsuccessful, fearing that he might have been kidnapped. He has called for legal action against those responsible for the alleged abduction.
In an interview with Dawn, Khan’s brother, Awais Ahmed Khan, stated that the family tried to obtain information about Khan’s ride on that day. They alleged that the trip was canceled midway. Awais claimed that his brother dropped a girl off at her home before heading back but never arrived.
According to Awais, they possess CCTV footage from the house where Hamza Ahmed Khan dropped off the girl before leaving for home, but he never made it back.
He mentioned that the cab company has not provided them with any details. They stated that if law enforcement agencies reach out, they will share the information. Awais noted that the police have not yet contacted the company.
Awais Ahmed Khan accused the police of not cooperating with the family. He said they would seek assistance from the Canadian embassy to file a petition in court to find Hamza Ahmed Khan.
Dawn reported that Awais resides in the United States, while the family is originally from Karachi, where their parents currently live.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed stated that investigators have yet to locate Hamza Ahmed Khan. The police have obtained initial details from the complainant and the ride-hailing service.
