Miami, May 4: In a thrilling conclusion to the Cadillac Championship, Sahith Theegala showcased an impressive performance in the final round, ending the week on a high note. His strong finish not only boosted his confidence but also elevated him on the leaderboard.
While Theegala captured attention with his late surge, Cameron Young maintained a consistent and powerful game throughout the tournament, securing a remarkable victory.
Theegala scored an impressive 8-under 64 in the final round, marking his best score of the season. He began the tournament with a steady 69 but faced challenges in the middle rounds, posting scores of 76 and 74 that dropped him in the rankings.
However, his strong finish propelled him up 33 spots, landing him in a tie for 30th place. This round not only improved his standing but also provided a much-needed boost as he strives to reclaim his position among the world’s top players.
Starting on the back nine, Theegala gained momentum with birdies on the 12th and 16th holes. He then added six more birdies on the front nine, including three consecutive birdies to close out his round without a single bogey, showcasing his excellent control and skill.
Meanwhile, Sudarshan Yellamraju also made a strong comeback, finishing with a clean round of 68, tying with Theegala for 30th place. His round included four birdies, and he did not drop a single shot.
On the other hand, Akshay Bhatia had a mixed day. Despite making an eagle on the par-4 16th hole and adding four birdies, his score of 1-over 73 was marred by two double bogeys and three other bogeys. This caused him to slip from the top 10 to a tie for 23rd place.
At the top of the leaderboard, Cameron Young maintained excellent form and composure throughout the tournament. Even after incurring a one-stroke penalty at the start of the final round, he remained unfazed. His final score of 4-under 68 brought his total to 19-under for the week, securing a comfortable six-shot victory. World number one Scottie Scheffler finished in second place, marking his third consecutive runner-up finish.
The tournament conditions were affected by morning rain, softening the notoriously difficult “Blue Monster” course and delaying the start of play. Preferred lies were in effect, making scoring slightly easier than usual. Ben Griffin claimed third place, while Si Woo Kim, Sepp Straka, and Adam Scott shared fourth.
