Washington, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Next week, Chinese President Xi Jinping will host a state dinner at the White House, featuring prominent business figures such as Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos on the guest list. This event comes as the United States prepares for discussions with China on artificial intelligence, trade, and export controls.
The guest list also includes notable names like Michael Dell, Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, Jane Fraser, and Tim Cook. A senior U.S. official confirmed that several American officials will also attend the dinner, scheduled for Thursday in the East Room. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, along with the Chinese delegation.
Both presidents are expected to deliver speeches at the start of the dinner. A senior U.S. official remarked that this event is anticipated to be highly popular and widely discussed in Washington, D.C.
The guest list highlights influential figures from the tech and business sectors. This diplomatic gathering occurs amid expectations of negotiations on various trade-related issues between the two nations. However, officials have not announced any separate business meetings or clarified the role of the guests in the discussions.
The agenda for the leaders is expected to cover artificial intelligence and the current trade agreement, referred to during briefings as the “Busan Truce.” The official declined to speculate on the possibility of reaching any agreements.
Over the weekend, senior-level talks with Chinese representatives in New York are also anticipated, focusing on AI discussions. However, officials have not disclosed specific proposals from the U.S. for these talks.
In terms of trade negotiations, limited tariff reductions on non-sensitive and non-strategic goods could be on the table. An official noted that discussions have taken place regarding a limited range of products but did not specify which items. Issues surrounding rare earth supply and export controls are also contentious topics.
A senior U.S. official emphasized that Washington will not ease export controls in exchange for mineral supplies, asserting that China has already agreed to provide supplies. The official added that China’s delivery has not met U.S. expectations, and this will be a point of negotiation.
When asked about Chinese investment in the U.S. automobile market, the official stated that compliance with applicable safety regulations and laws is mandatory. The state visit will commence on Wednesday, with Trump welcoming Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan at Joint Base Andrews during an airport arrival ceremony.
Thursday’s agenda includes the arrival ceremony, a military review, and a bilateral meeting between the presidents. On that day, Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan will have separate engagements, with Kelly indicating that the First Lady’s office will provide further information.
Both couples will reconvene on Friday for a private tea at the White House, followed by a visit to the National Archives. Kelly noted that they would view significant early American documents as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary. Afterward, Xi Jinping will depart from Joint Base Andrews.
