New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of both Houses. This session is set to be a crucial event in the parliamentary calendar.
According to reports, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on 1 February. Additionally, the Economic Survey is likely to be tabled in Parliament on 29 January.
Earlier this month, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced on the social media platform ‘X’ that, on the recommendation of the Government of India, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026. The session will start on 28 January 2026 and continue until 2 April 2026. The first phase of the session will conclude on 13 February 2026, with Parliament reconvening on 9 March 2026.
This two-phase format allows for initial discussions on the budget and other important matters, followed by detailed examination by standing committees during the recess. Afterward, final debates and passage of financial bills will take place. This approach aims to facilitate meaningful debates and promote people-centric governance.
The session comes at a significant time as the government focuses on addressing emerging challenges related to economic growth, financial stability, infrastructure development, employment, and sustainability. It is anticipated that members of Parliament from all political parties will engage in thorough discussions on taxation, public expenditure, and policy reforms.
Overall, the Budget Session will consist of 30 sittings, reflecting the government’s commitment to transparent and effective legislative processes.
