New Delhi, April 19: Manchester United has taken a significant step towards UEFA Champions League qualification following their victory over Chelsea. Former midfielder Owen Hargreaves praised Bruno Fernandes as the architect of Manchester United’s success, labeling him the best player in the Premier League.
Hargreaves stated in an interview with TNT Sports, “Bruno Fernandes will be nominated for Player of the Year this season. He was the architect of Manchester United’s victory and the best player on the pitch. He is the finest central midfielder in the Premier League. With his finishing, it seems Champions League football is returning to Manchester United.”
He added, “Kevin De Bruyne has been the best for a while, but right now, it’s Bruno. I believe he is the best player in the Premier League, having delivered outstanding performances throughout the season.”
Hargreaves mentioned that the Player of the Year award could depend on which team wins the title. “If Arsenal wins, it might go to Declan Rice or Gabriel. If not, I think it will be Bruno Fernandes. He has been exceptional in terms of creation and assists, and he brings valuable experience.”
With their 1-0 win over Chelsea, Manchester United has solidified their hold on third place, now 10 points ahead of the sixth-placed Blues. They have five games remaining to secure one of the five prestigious spots in Europe’s premier competition.
After the match, Fernandes told TNT Sports, “It feels amazing for us. We had to bounce back. It wasn’t just about Leeds; there were two games we didn’t win. But we knew we had to perform brilliantly today because Chelsea is a very good team.”
He emphasized, “It was crucial for us because we know our goal is to reach the top four, and they are the closest to the top five.”
Manchester United will face seventh-placed Brentford at Old Trafford on April 27.
