IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Nandre Burger Fined for Code of Conduct Violation

Lucknow, April 23: Rajasthan Royals (RR) fast bowler Nandre Burger has been fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday. He also received one demerit point.

During the match, Burger was seen making aggressive gestures and verbally abusing LSG captain Rishabh Pant after dismissing him for a duck.

The IPL stated, “Nandre Burger of Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10% of his match fee and has accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.”

The statement continued, “Nandre Burger has accepted the Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 and has also accepted the penalty imposed by the match referee. The match referee’s decision is final and binding for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.”

Article 2.5 pertains to the use of abusive language, gestures, or actions that insult another player or provoke aggressive reactions during a match.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, accumulating four demerit points results in a suspension point, leading to a one-match ban once that limit is reached. These points remain on a player’s record for 36 months, necessitating Burger to tread carefully moving forward.

In the match, RR batted first, scoring 159 runs for the loss of six wickets. LSG was bowled out for 119 runs in 18 overs, losing the match by 40 runs. Nandre Burger took two wickets for 27 runs in four overs, dismissing both Pant and Mitchell Marsh.
