BJP Strengthens Position in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation with Victory of Vijay Singh Panwar as Deputy Mayor
Vijay Singh Panwar of BJP has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of Jodhpur, defeating Congresss Abdul Karim Joni by four votes.

Jodhpur, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Vijay Singh Panwar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation on Saturday. He secured victory against Congress candidate Abdul Karim Joni by a margin of four votes.
According to official results, Panwar received 52 votes, while Joni garnered 48. This election outcome follows the recent election of Prasannachand Mehta from the BJP as the Mayor of Jodhpur, giving the party control over both top positions in the municipal corporation.
Voting for the Deputy Mayor began at 2:30 PM. After verification, the councillors arrived at the municipal office to cast their votes. The results were announced shortly after the counting concluded.
In the municipal elections, the BJP won 45 seats and later gained the support of seven independent councillors, raising their total to 52. The Congress holds 44 seats, while there are also 10 independent councillors and one from the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP).
A majority in the 101-member assembly requires 51 votes. With the backing of independent councillors, the BJP has surpassed this threshold. The Congress had re-nominated Abdul Karim Joni, who previously served as Deputy Mayor in the Congress-led assembly.
Both Mayor Prasannachand Mehta and Deputy Mayor Vijay Singh Panwar are councillors from the Sardarpura assembly constituency, with Mehta elected from Ward 82 and Panwar from Ward 98. Joni, who lost the Deputy Mayor election, has been elected as a councillor for the fifth time and has previously held the Deputy Mayor position.
Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, also represents the Sardarpura assembly constituency. With Panwar’s victory, the BJP now holds both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions in the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation.
