New Delhi, August 10: BJP MP Kalicharan Singh has commented on the recent attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that it is a manifestation of public anger after 15 years of suffering.
Speaking to a news agency, Singh said, “If she has mismanaged for 15 years and accusations against her are true, then the public’s frustration is justified. They have endured hardships for too long, and this is an expression of their anger. There is no political motive or agenda behind this; no political worker would act in such a manner. However, you cannot completely suppress the public’s right to express their anger.”
He further noted that such incidents are not healthy for the political system, but the public has felt oppressed for 15 years. “They lacked the freedom to live and practice their religion. Everything in Bengal was held hostage. When frustrations boil over, the public reacts,” he added.
On the discussion between Prime Minister Modi and Commonwealth Games medalists, Singh remarked that Indian athletes participating in major international events like the Commonwealth and Asian Games received minimal recognition prior to 2014, resulting in a low medal tally.
“Today, India is gaining recognition worldwide for its achievements in sports. The Prime Minister‘s slogan, ‘Khelo India, Jeeto India,’ emphasizes the importance of honoring our athletes and young talent, boosting their confidence, and encouraging greater participation in sports,” he stated.
Regarding the opposition’s disruptions in Parliament, Singh criticized the Congress party and its allies for not cooperating to allow the session to proceed smoothly. He described their behavior as childish, likening it to that of young individuals unaware of proper conduct. “Sometimes, we feel that since we are newly elected to the Lok Sabha, we should learn from senior MPs about how to sit, ask questions, and understand parliamentary procedures,” he said.
Singh concluded by asserting that the opposition is clearly intent on creating obstacles and lacks the understanding that their role should be to provide constructive cooperation.
