Ahmedabad, August 10: Ahmedabad is set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030. Congress MP Deepender Hooda has raised concerns about this decision, suggesting that Haryana should be designated as a ‘host’ or ‘co-host’ state for the event. In response, Haryana BJP President Archana Gupta emphasized that hosting the Commonwealth Games is a matter of pride for India, and there should be no questions regarding the venue.
Gupta stated to reporters on Sunday, “If the Commonwealth Games are held in India, it is a matter of pride for the entire nation. Any state that has the necessary infrastructure to host such high-level sports events deserves to be the host. Gujarat currently has such arrangements, and Haryana can also develop similar facilities in the future.”
She further remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a long time; he has built excellent infrastructure there. The issue is not about which state is hosting, but rather that the athletes are Indian. This is an opportunity for pride for all Indians. Whether the event is hosted in Gujarat or Haryana, there should be no doubts. Those MPs questioning this are from the Rajya Sabha. The current Chief Minister of Haryana is working on developing the necessary infrastructure. Once we have that level of infrastructure, we too will host the Games. Our government, which came to power with a full majority in 2014, has been consistently working towards development. Infrastructure has been steadily improving. For years, the previous government failed to create the infrastructure needed to host the Commonwealth Games.”
Gupta added, “Our state’s Chief Minister and our Prime Minister stand with the athletes. During Congress rule, athletes were not given the attention they deserved. Today, our biggest achievement is that our Chief Minister has ensured that every village has a gymnasium. These gyms also have yoga instructors because when athletes are physically and mentally strong, their performance improves. Haryana is a state of athletes, and our players have put Haryana on the world map. These athletes have elevated the pride of Haryana. Our state and central government have stood firmly with them. Stadiums are being constructed, and tracks are being laid.”
During this discussion, BJP leader Kiran Chaudhary commented, “Infrastructure is essential for everything. When we talked about bringing infrastructure here, Congress never allowed it. When we wanted to build roads, there were hardly any decent roads available. Developing infrastructure takes time. Now, Chaudhary Bansilal University, which we brought here, is starting to take shape. Gradually, it will progress. The athletes belong to our country and are our pride. It is not just about Haryana, Gujarat, or any specific state; we all must move forward together.”
