BJP Leader Calls for Bharat Ratna for Chief Election Commissioner, Criticizes Oppositions Tactics
BJPs Jai Bhagwan Goyal praises Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and criticizes the opposition for targeting the election body after losses.

New Delhi, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Goyal has praised Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s efforts, advocating for his recognition with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. Goyal also criticized the opposition for targeting the Election Commission, particularly regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists.
In an interview, Goyal highlighted Kumar’s actions in removing names of Bangladeshi and Rohingya individuals from the voter list, which he claimed contributed to the electoral defeat of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. According to Goyal, the opposition feels that Kumar’s role may have influenced their loss.
He asserted that leaders from various opposition parties, including Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, are attempting to blame the Chief Election Commissioner for the election results. Goyal contended that the opposition lacks public support and thus resorts to targeting the Election Commission.
Goyal pointed out that there is a concerted effort to create a negative atmosphere around Gyanesh Kumar. Complaints have been lodged with the central government through other Election Commissioners, alleging that Kumar makes arbitrary decisions.
He elaborated on the decision-making process within the Election Commission, explaining that it operates as a three-member body where decisions are made based on consensus or majority. If two commissioners agree on an issue while one disagrees, the majority decision stands.
Emphasizing the constitutional nature of the Election Commission, Goyal urged political parties to express their views based on facts and constitutional processes. He commended Kumar’s leadership, stating that significant steps have been taken regarding the voter list under his guidance.
