BJP Claims Highest Muslim Fatalities in West Bengal Over Three Years

Kolkata, March 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asserted that West Bengal has recorded the highest number of Muslim fatalities over the past three years compared to any other state.

Samik Bhattacharya, the president of the BJP’s West Bengal unit, urged the Muslim community to tally the number of their members killed in the state during this period and compare it with figures from other states across the country.

He suggested that these statistics should be contrasted with those from BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, emphasizing that West Bengal’s numbers are significantly higher.

Bhattacharya alleged that there have been numerous instances in West Bengal where Muslim members of the Trinamool Congress have reportedly been killed by fellow party members from the same community. He noted that these incidents are frequently reported in the media as ‘factionalism’ within the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Additionally, Bhattacharya criticized the CPI(M) regarding an FIR filed against Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, at a police station in Kolkata. The complaint was lodged by a young CPI(M) leader, accusing Adhikari of making communal remarks during the Dol Yatra festival.

While Bhattacharya stated that he was not present to defend the opposition leader, he asserted that Adhikari has adhered to constitutional boundaries. He remarked that the CPI(M) has become entirely irrelevant in West Bengal politics and is resorting to such tactics to sustain its presence.

He also commented on the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for later this year, following the Election Commission’s announcement of voting dates.

Bhattacharya stated, β€œThe last free and fair elections in West Bengal were held in 2011, marking the end of 34 years of Left Front rule and the beginning of the Trinamool Congress government. Since then, no elections have been peaceful. However, this time it seems that the voting will be entirely peaceful.”
