BJP Announces Candidates for Teacher and Graduate Legislative Council Elections in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, May 24: The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced five candidates for the upcoming Teacher and Graduate Legislative Council elections in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for 2026. The party has named candidates for the Lucknow and Agra graduate seats, as well as the Bareilly-Moradabad, Lucknow, and Meerut teacher constituencies.

According to the list released by the BJP, Avnish Kumar Singh will contest from the Lucknow graduate constituency, while Dr. Manavendra Pratap Singh has been nominated for the Agra graduate seat. Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon will represent the Bareilly-Moradabad teacher constituency. Additionally, Umesh Dwivedi has been chosen for the Lucknow teacher constituency, and Shri Chand Sharma will contest from Meerut.

The announcement was made by Arun Singh, the BJP’s National General Secretary and in-charge of the headquarters. It is noteworthy that elections for 11 seats in the Teacher and Graduate constituencies of the Legislative Council will take place in Uttar Pradesh in 2026. The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council comprises a total of 100 members, with eight members elected from teacher constituencies and eight from graduate constituencies.

These seats are filled through direct voting by educated voters and the teaching community. The current term of the elected members from these constituencies will end on December 7, prompting the election process to be conducted next year.

Political parties have already intensified preparations for these elections. The five candidates announced by the BJP are all current members of the Legislative Council. The party has expressed confidence in these incumbent members, considering their experience and organizational strength.

According to party sources, the selection of candidates took into account organizational activity, influence within the teacher and graduate communities, and regional dynamics. The BJP views these elections as politically significant, as teachers, graduates, and educated voters play a crucial role in the Legislative Council elections.
