Bihars Panchayat Elections to Proceed as Scheduled, Confirms Minister Deepak Prakash

Patna, March 21: In a clear statement, Deepak Prakash, the Panchayati Raj Minister in Nitish Kumar’s government, confirmed on Saturday that the Panchayat elections in Bihar will be held as per the scheduled timeline. He emphasized that there will be no changes to the delimitation process.

The minister asserted that elections for the positions of Mukhiya (head) and Up-Mukhiya (deputy head) will follow the existing procedures, similar to previous elections.

Additionally, he announced the implementation of a new reservation roster for the 2026 Panchayat elections. Speaking to reporters in Gaya, he stated, “The current system has been in place for nearly a decade, and this change aims to ensure proper representation for all sections of society.”

During his visit to Gaya district, the minister inspected the construction site of a controversial Panchayat government building in Barsouna village under the Tankuppa block. He reviewed land-related details with officials and instructed them to resume and expedite the construction work, which had been halted due to local protests.

Addressing the media at the Gaya Circuit House, Deepak Prakash also commented on the political landscape. Regarding ongoing speculations about leadership in Bihar, he assured that clarity about the next Chief Minister will emerge at the right time. He stressed that leadership will remain with Nitish Kumar, attributing the state’s development to his governance over the past two decades.

When questioned about the Chief Minister’s absence from the Eid celebrations at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, the minister explained that Nitish Kumar was occupied with government duties. He also remarked that the presence of Nishant Kumar at the event should not be viewed through a political lens.

In brief remarks on national politics, he noted that election-related violence in West Bengal has been a recurring issue but hinted that voters there may opt for change in the future.

Overall, this announcement reflects the government’s commitment to proceed with the Panchayat elections while enhancing the reservation system to make grassroots governance more inclusive.
