Bihar Receives ₹1,203 Crore for Panchayati Raj Institutions

Patna, March 25: The central government has allocated ₹4,383.98 crore to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and rural local bodies (RLBs) in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra for the financial year 2025-26 under the 15th Finance Commission.

Of this amount, Bihar’s three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions will receive ₹1,203.60 crore as the second installment of tied grants. Additionally, ₹2.09 crore from the withheld portion of the first installment has been released for three blocks, panchayats, and seven gram panchayats that have now become eligible.

On January 27, Bihar’s Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash met with Union Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, to discuss various departmental matters and submitted a memorandum.

Under the grants recommended by the 15th Finance Commission, ₹803.79 crore has been allocated, with an additional ₹2,622.65 crore designated for the health sector. The state has requested annual financial support for the implementation and maintenance of Panchayat Government buildings constructed in village panchayats.

Prakash also urged for an increase in the budget for the National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan to strengthen computer labs in district panchayat resource centers and ensure effective implementation of e-governance and IT-based services at the panchayat level.

Minister Deepak Prakash expressed gratitude to Union Minister Lalan Singh, stating that this funding will accelerate welfare initiatives in the state’s gram panchayats. It will significantly contribute to enhancing basic services such as sanitation, maintaining ODF status, and ensuring safe drinking water.
