Siwan, May 18: Bihar police are taking decisive action against criminals. Continuous operations are underway to apprehend offenders. Recently, a wanted criminal was reported injured during a shootout with police in Siwan district.
A police officer stated that they received information early in the morning about a fugitive heading home from Uttar Pradesh. Acting on this tip, the Marwa police team initiated an extensive vehicle inspection campaign in the area. During the checks, they attempted to stop a suspicious motorcyclist near the Bedouli turn by the Chhath ghat.
Upon noticing the police, the individual opened fire. In response to the threat, the police team acted in self-defense, resulting in the suspect being shot in the leg. The injured criminal was promptly transported under police protection to PMCH, Patna, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The suspect has been identified as Ankit Singh, a resident of Siswan in Siwan district.
Initial investigations revealed that Ankit was involved in a robbery that occurred on May 6 at a jewelry store in the Jiradei police station area, specifically in Jamapur market. During that incident, the robbers fired a total of four rounds, with three shots fired inside the store and one outside while stealing a motorcycle.
The motorcycle stolen during the robbery has been recovered from the scene, along with a loaded country-made pistol and two spent cartridges.
Ankit has multiple criminal cases registered against him at Rasulpur, Manjhi, Raghunathpur, and Jiradei police stations, including over five related to jewelry thefts.
Police have arrested the injured suspect and are continuing their investigation.
