Patna, March 28: The Bihar government has adopted a firm stance against the incidents of alleged intimidation and threats by striking Circle Officers (COs) and Revenue Officers (ROs). In a decisive move, the Revenue and Land Reforms Department has made it clear that any union leader or official who threatens or obstructs officials returning to work will not be spared. Principal Secretary C.K. Anil has sent directives to all District Collectors, instructing them to file immediate First Information Reports (FIRs) in such cases. The government views this as not only a violation of service rules but also a criminal act.
Complaints received by the department indicate that some officials on strike are threatening their working colleagues via WhatsApp calls and exerting mental pressure through social media by ‘naming and shaming’ them. The department has labeled this as a serious attempt to obstruct government operations.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated on Saturday that any disruption to law and order or administrative systems in the state will not be tolerated. He described the intimidation of honest officials returning to work as cowardly and a serious criminal offense. The government plans to identify such elements and take strict action against them under the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.
Sinha emphasized that offenders will not be spared and will be ensured imprisonment. It is our collective responsibility to provide safety and respect to those officials who have aligned with the government. Following the government’s strict measures, pressure has begun to mount among the striking officials.
According to departmental information, 24 officials have returned to work so far. Non-striking officials have already been given additional responsibilities to continue operations. The department has instructed all District Collectors to act promptly in such cases and report the actions taken back to the department.
It is noteworthy that a significant number of COs and other revenue officials in various districts of Bihar have been on an indefinite strike since March 9, impacting registration and other land-related activities in the districts.
