Raipur, May 30: Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel addressed several issues during a press conference on Saturday. He revealed that a meeting was held on Friday with local leaders to strengthen the Congress party in Punjab and prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.
In his conversation with the media, Baghel stated, “On Friday, there was a nearly three-hour marathon meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and K.C. Venugopal regarding issues in Punjab. We discussed all matters extensively, especially with the elections a few months away.”
When asked about D.K. Shivakumar becoming the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Baghel advised waiting for the meeting of the legislative party. He mentioned that only after a formal announcement can anything be said.
Responding to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s comments related to ‘Vande Mataram’, Baghel countered, stating that discussions about the history of ‘Vande Mataram’ have taken place in the Lok Sabha, and people do sing the entire verse. He challenged Vishnu Dev Sai to ask all his ministers to stand and sing ‘Vande Mataram’ without looking at any text.
Baghel emphasized, “We are Congress members. Every meeting and conference of ours begins and ends with ‘Vande Mataram’ and the national anthem. Can they provide an example of any BJP event where ‘Vande Mataram’ is sung?”
On the issue of the West Asia (Gulf) crisis and the potential impact on supply in the Hormuz Strait, the central government has instructed state-owned oil marketing companies to prepare a strategic reserve of cooking gas (LPG) equivalent to at least 30 days of demand.
In response to this, Baghel remarked, “In any case, LPG, petrol, and diesel are not available. All petrol pumps are dry. Vishnu Dev Sai should be concerned about how farmers will get fertilizers and transporters will get fuel. However, he remains silent on this matter.”
