Bhopal, March 1: The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Saturday that the state government is planning to develop a Science Park and a national-level research center at the former Union Carbide factory site in Bhopal.
After a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, CM Yadav shared details about various initiatives undertaken by both the central and state governments.
He revealed that a comprehensive plan has been prepared to transform the 87-acre land of the former Carbide factory into a memorial for the Bhopal gas tragedy, a Science Park, a convention center, a modern laboratory for national security, and a development-focused national research center.
Recalling the Bhopal gas tragedy of December 3, 1984, Yadav stated that the city witnessed one of the most horrific industrial disasters in history, claiming over 25,000 lives over the years. He noted that the state government has recently completed the transportation and disposal of hazardous waste accumulated at the factory site.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that he sought guidance from Home Minister Shah regarding the construction of a grand memorial on the vacant land of the former factory. He provided information about state government events organized to commemorate the legacy of Emperor Vikramaditya.
Yadav emphasized that the state has taken strong measures against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) activities, identifying Balaghat district as a long-affected area. He also discussed the organization of the Baiga Festival to promote regional development.
Regarding health initiatives, the Chief Minister announced the launch of a widespread HPV vaccination campaign, aiming to vaccinate over 800,000 girls free of charge.
He added that assistance is being provided to farmers facing crop damage due to natural disasters, following necessary surveys.
